memorial day fun

Today was the FIRST PAID HOLIDAY OF SPRING!

And what do your bears do to celebrate Memorial Day? We stayed inside and did house errands... it was just way too hot to do anything outdoors today! Although we did both venture outside for a small part of the day...

Anyway, our house errands make for some rather interesting conversations. Jonahsmiles fell completely asleep during one of them, and during her nap I was taking a break and vegging in front of the TV. Then I decided to be productive and headed to my room to read, when I heard Jonahsmiles rustling around in the kitchen. Coming out excitedly, I exclaimed, "You're up!" And she replied, "Yes. You know why? Because I had a dream that I was asleep and you came into my room and were yelling at me to wake up. So I woke up and realized that you were not even in my room." huh.

We are also good at reading each other's minds. Eh, not really. We were both checking stuff online in our respective rooms at one point:

Jonahsmiles asked me, "So how many of these do you usually order at one time?"
My reply was "uuuhhhh. twelve?"

(Because, I obviously knew exactly what she was ordering. She actually needed new contact lenses. I had a pretty good answer for her, don't you think?)

A few minutes later, I had a question! "So, should we take the 6:00 bus from Rosslyn?"
Her response: "Where is the bus going and why are we leaving at 6:00?"

(I was clearly talking about out trip up to New York this coming weekend. I have no idea why she thought I meant TODAY at 6:00.)

We both need to go back to work tomorrow. Memorial Day should really be Memorial Week...

antics of an abandoned polar bear

Not much bear banter this past weekend! The panda and the polar bear did not spend as much time together as they normally do; they were hanging out with separate crowds for much of the weekend. This time, edithbear was kept quite busy, but when she's not, and jonahsmiles decides to abandon her for more than a day, some quirky polar bear habits emerge! These might include:

• watching Lifetime movies every night. Especially the really, really bad ones that are oppressively predictable and so unrealistic that they are funny. Edithbear has watched some of these several times!!
  
• consuming Hawaiian pizza. Jonahsmiles despises pizza with pineapples on them, and edithbear loves pineapple on pizza, so when the panda is gone, the polar bear comes out to eat everything she couldn't have otherwise eaten.
• taking a million personality tests. As if polar bears don't know that they love the cold weather and live in the North Pole. They have to take all these complicated personality surveys to discover this about themselves and think, "Wow, these tests are so accurate! That is totally who I am!"
• taking a break from the Lifetime movies to read dorky books and magazines, mostly written by economists or sociologists.
• falling asleep on the futon (while watching another Lifetime rerun) and, after realizing this has happened when a loud noise from the TV wakes her up at 2am, being too lazy to move from the futon to her bed.
• shredding paper.
• foraging for fancy chocolates and making weird meals out of whatever is left in the refrigerator.

Jonahsmiles is abandoning me again in two days, for the entire weekend. Save me save me!

From whence came the name?

My roommate's famous last words: I don't think we are that bizzare...

She also believes in the famous "show-not-tell" format, as you'll see in the conversation below. So, if you want to witness first-hand how bizzare we truly are sometimes, you'll want to keep track of this blog cuz as she's written, this is where the panda and polar bear worlds collide and who know what'll come outa our mouths... or muzzles. Our very cute furry muzzles... :-)

So, how did we come up with the name for this site? Observe the behind-the-scenes, witty banter that occurs during the workday... cuz you know, we're always so hard at work...

jonahsmiles: so when will we launch our joint blog?
Edithbear: whenever. :) i can do it today if you are eager =D
jonahsmiles: we can call it panedith bear :-)
Edithbear: hahaha
jonahsmiles: and the tagline can be "only for the pure of heart, holy and wise" followed by "unless you are learning to be peace"
Edithbear: although i think panedithbear sounds kinda weird
jonahsmiles: or "turn Buddha off and turn God on" :-) "time to switch the channel" :)
Edithbear: uhh can we call it panda-polar-bear?
jonahsmiles: aww, it's less fun... hmmmm
Edithbear: well i don't think it's fair that my name needs to be in the blogname but yours is not
jonahsmiles: hahah we can call it "black and white noise" or Bear truths :-) or Bear with us
Edithbear: hehe... heeeheeeheee i'm obviously the all-white polar bear because i am pure

Hello and welcome to our bantering bear blog! This panda and polar bear wanted to share our banter with you, because it has filled our lives with so much joy! Actually, it's mainly so that we will remember our silly conversations about nothing for perpetuity...
